WHO's WESSEL?

Hi, my name is Wessel Smeekes. I am a sound designer from the Netherlands with a passion for making sounds that squeak, slam, hit, and blast fun or realism.

As a kid, I could not even clap on the beat, until I figured that I could create the beat myself. Take that, music teacher! Thanks to the beauty of old-school FL Studio, this is where the magic happened.

From then on I always had a knack for anything sound-related. Professionally, this started as a career in linear media, doing post-production at Gooi & Vecht Studio for TV commercials and programs, as well as radio and YouTube content. At the same time, I always dreamed of working in gaming, which led me to study Business of Esports in Finland, where I worked on live broadcasts, events, and more.

But sound kept calling. After another 2.5 years working in gaming marketing & content creation, I finally went full audio-mode and started freelancing.

Today, I work across game audio, sound design, and audio post-production, collaborating closely with teams to make projects sound intentional, responsive, and to tell the story through sound.
